Public communication of science

The academic environment is always open to laymen, but often these do not really know about the great body of knowledge produced within the walls of the University. This is in part because we publish in periodicals usually not accessible to them and in part because of the complicated language we use in our papers.

For this reason, we prepare texts which are friendly and short, specifically intended for laymen. These texts have been appearing in the Brazilian periodicals “Ciência Hoje” (Science today) and “Ciência Hoje das Crianças” (Science today for children). These periodicals are intended for non-specialists and are available in regular bookstores. Bloggers and websites for Science Education greatly help in expanding the reach of our articles since they often post them in their blogs and sites.
