Call
for Proposals
The Program Committee of the PBL2010 International
Conference invites the submission of abstracts for presentation.
The Committee welcomes abstracts that elaborate on the Conference
theme "Connecting people, ideas and communities" and other perspectives,
for basic and higher education, in the following strands:

Health and Medicine
-
Social Sciences and Humanities
-
Engineering and Applied Sciences
-
Teaching Education and Professional Development
Abstracts may be submitted
online in any of the official languages of the Conference (English,
Portuguese and Spanish). They will be peer-reviewed by the Scientific
Committee. The proposals accepted will be invited to submit short/full
papers to be published in the conference proceedings. More detailed
information will be available by April 1, 2009.
The following formats of
presentation proposals are welcome:
Symposia
Symposia are 90-minute
sessions comprised of presentations by 3-5 individuals who address
a common theme or topic in PBL or Active Learning Method. Twenty
minutes should be reserved for questions and discussion. Symposia
proposals should include a brief summary of each participant's education
and work experience; include a 100-word abstract (for publication
in the conference program), and a 1000 word summary (for
the program review committee) describing each of the presentations
and the session as a whole. The author(s) must clearly specify if
they will present in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

Conference
Workshops
Workshops are 90-minute
small-group interactive sessions that focus on a specific PBL or
Active Learning Method intervention or assessment emphasizing the
demonstration and application of technique, skills, etc. Workshop
proposals should have a title and include a brief summary of the
proposer's education and work experience. Also, include 100-word
abstract (for publication in the conference program), and
a 500-word summary (for the program review committee) describing
the session as a whole. The author(s) must clearly specify if they
will present in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

Research
and Experiences Paper presentations
Paper presentations are
reports about research and/or the implementation and application
of PBL or Active Learning Method in higher or basic education. Paper
proposals should include a 100-word abstract (for publication
in the conference program), and a 500-word summary (for the
program review) describing the work to be presented and the results.
The author(s) must clearly specify if they will present in Portuguese,
Spanish or English.

Interactive
Poster presentations
Posters are visual and
graphic representations referring to research and/or the implementation
and application of PBL or Active Learning Method in higher or basic
education. Each presenter must prepare a Poster that will be on
exhibited during the entire day of the session. The Poster sessions
will be organized in an interactive format, named in the form of
a problem to foster discussions, with 6 posters in each 60-minute
session. During the session, each presenter will have 5 minutes
to explain his/her work to the audience. Thirty minutes will be
reserved for questions and discussion. Proposals should include
a 500- word abstract (for the program review committee) describing
the experience. The author(s) must clearly specify if they will
present in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

Guidelines
for Abstract and Summary Submission
Abstracts of accepted presentations
will be printed as submitted unless the Scientific Program Committee
edits for clarity and space.
- Full Title (Max. 15 words)
- The full title of your presentation. Successful titles convey
the subject matter, pique the interest of the reader and identify
potential audiences.
- Presenter Information
- Including name(s) of all presenters, contact information for primary
presenter.
- Abstract (Max. 100 words)
- A brief description of your proposal, to be printed in the program.
- Summary (Max. 500 words)
- A summary of your presentation. The Scientific Program Committee
will base its acceptance decisions primarily on the content of the
abstract. An effective submission will include:
a)
Introduction/Background Information
b)
Methods used in conducting the study, project or activity
c)
Results of the study, project or activity
d)
Conclusion(s)/Evaluation of the study, project or activity.
Note: At this stage, there is no need to submit references or bibliography.
The submission of proposals does not require the payment of registration in the event.
